Year 2’s had a melodious song competition. It was an excellent opportunity for the aspiring singers to exhibit their enchanting singing skills. The students were filled with excitement and enthusiasm while singing. It was a memorable experience for all.

Together we can make a better world for those with Autism..... Year 2 celebrated the Maths Day on 5th May having a variety of Mathematical activities based on Maths topics taught in the class. The students were enthusiastic and assisted their parents to carry out these amazing activities. Maths Day was a day of fun and interactive learning aimed to develop and challenge the children’s skills in using and applying Maths in day to day life. This event enabled the parents to experience and enjoy Maths with the child and support in developing mathematical skills at home. The feedback received from the parents was extremely overwhelming and appreciable. Watch Year 2 students sharing their experience of the Math-o-magic day. The year 2 students attended a field trip in the Mall of the Emirates with great enthusiasm and excitement. They were amazed watching “The Ripples” which was a compilation of five short movies i.e. Captain Sandy, The Dinosaurs, Ping Ping Ping, The Penguin’s and The Cardboard Adventure. The Ripples _ a film made by The Winchester school children has been short listed for CIFFS Official Selection. What a wonderful experience it was watching movies made by students from all around the world.
The story called The Wish was a thrilling and exciting experience for the children. The actors mesmerized the children with their brilliant performance. After the story session , an interactive drama workshop was held for the children to showcase their talent.
Earth Day is an annual event, celebrated on April 22, worldwide. It's a day to reflect on our planet, our environment and what we can do to help keep them healthy. Students of the Winchester School celebrated the Earth Day by expressing their thoughts and ideas to protect mother Earth through the medium of Art, drawing beautiful and creative displays. Remember that Earth needs to be saved every single day. It has been rightly said that-
Anyone can drive a car . It takes someone special to drive a school bus. The 4th Of March is celebrated as the WORLD MATHS DAY, which encouraged students from around the world to take a break from regular and routine maths lessons. They took part in competitive maths-themed games, with the chance to excel. The aim is to raise standards and deepen their logical thinking, reasoning, curiosity, creativity and communicating through perseverance and collaborative activities in real life applications. This was an opportunity to our young master minds to showcase their mathematical skills. Story telling train was a new and enriching experience for the students. Ms. Lubna and Ms. Lori narrated the famous traditional tale “the Little Red Riding Hood” in an innovative way their imagination transported the students to a different world.
Our school had its annual Fun Fair on 31st January, 2015. Year 2 had exciting activities like: Bowling, Car race and Henna. Many who came to the Fun Fair, enjoyed trying their skills at knocking off the pins. Older boys were enthusiastic about competing the car race and girls queued-up for the Henna designs. It was an experience every one enjoyed. Year 2 had an activity packed Healthy Lifestyle week from 8th – 12th February, 2015. Students, with the help of their parents, made creative 3D models of Healthy Lifestyle for display. On Sunday, 8th February, students spoke on what they would do to keep healthy, during ‘Public Speaking’ time. We had exercises during Registration time as a reinforcement of the importance of physical activity. Students wrote beautiful poems on the importance of Healthy eating thus exhibiting their poetic skills. Thirty three parents from different nationalities like Egypt, Philippines, Indonesia, Sudan, India, Palestine etc imparted immense knowledge pertaining to their own countries, to the students, across the whole year group, in the most interesting and creative ways. It was a beautiful experience for the students, parents and teachers to witness the flavours of varied cultures under one roof, fostering global unity and peace.
On 27th January the school was wonder struck by the parade made by Donald Duck, Mickey Mouse, Harry Potter, Sponge Bob and Elsa and other popular book characters. The parade started from the classrooms from Year6- FS 1 went along the corridors of the school and assembled on the AstroTurf. Not only the students but also parents and teachers also participated in the parade dressed in fictional characters. Students enjoyed choosing their favourite character and talked about the character in the class.
The Literacy Week was celebrated across Primary from the 11th to the 15th of January. It was a fun filled week with lots of activities for the year 2 team. We began with story sequencing on Sunday which was super fun with little ones. The students of year 2 completely bowled the teachers over by their creative skills in making book mark. The children were overjoyed using flash cards on adjectives, nouns and using them in super sentences. Hand writing competition and the visit of the author Ms Jacqui Gray for her interactive book on “The Magical Garden” was the highlight of the Literacy week.
Year 2's had their annual sports day on the 15th of December. The event started off with the march past followed by the cheer leading performances from the Earth, fire, Wind and Water houses. the day was filled with excitement and the students were enthusiastic and energetic to be a part of it. Students eagerly participated in all the games to score maximum points for their respective houses. The highlight of the day was 100 metres race for parents and teachers. The field was filled with cheers to support and celebrate the success of winners.. Year 2 went on a field trip on 11th December 2014 to the Dubai Aquarium. The children were extremely excited about visiting the Underwater Zoo in Dubai mall. There were about 300 students in the entire year group accompanied by their respective class teachers, teaching assistants and one parent volunteer from every section. All the children were amazed by the exotic wonders of aquatic life showcasing more than 20,000 variety of marine creatures. The Winchester school celebrated the 43rd UAE National Day, with great excitment. The celebration was split into several events. Various activities were scheduled in the class which children enjoyed with great enthusiasm . The students of year 2 made the model of the desert with different items. Activities like students speaking about UAE for one minute, some students spoke about their home country followed by a presentation on the UAE, the parade , quiz was conducted in the class which students enjoyed and participated enthusiastically , where teachers and children dressed nationally and internationally united in pride and passion for the UAE, waved the national flag. The whole school sung the National Anthem of UAE with great spirit.
Year 2 had their Science day on 6th November, 2014. The activities were based on the topic Habitats. Parents along with their children had the opportunity to discover different habitats like ocean, desert, forest, arctic etc with a quiz followed by other activities such as creating food chains, habitat games and building habitats. Finally parents were encouraged to sing a song on Habitats along with the scintillating scientists to further explore the world of different habitats. A memorable learning experience for all as science activities are always fun! Year 2 had their Pyjama party which had an encouraging tun out of children and parents. The teachers role played Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Later children were invited on stageto role play the same and did so enthusiastically much to the delight of the audience. It was a memorable evening with a lot to cherish. Suhina Kanda of Yr 2C has donated her hair towards wigs for cancer patients in the Hair for Hope Campaign organised by the Winchester School. Indeed a noble act from a student so young for a worthy cause. Well Done Suhina!!!
Year 2 celebrated the Maths Day 0n 21st October having a variety of Mathematical activities based on habitats. The students were enthusiastic and assisted their parents to carry out these amazing activities. The feedback received from the parents was extremely overwhelming and appreciable. In celebration of peace, Year 2 observed International Peace Day with a myriad of activities. The day was inaugurated by the Peace doves project. As, the doves carry symbolic wishes of peace, tranquility and goodwill, children from varied cultures shared and celebrated peace and diversity together. These doves were then displayed in the Year 2 corridor- “The Year 2 – Peace Walk” with little messages of friendship, love and peace for all around the world. Around 300 students of Year 2 made a human chain linking their arms together to demonstrate a show of standing up for peace. Students are still in the process of practicing their Peace Song “Let there be Peace on earth” to be presented in an “Over 300 voices” PEACE choir at a later event.
